The Reason this Democratic Party Refuses to Release their 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

The action from the DNC to block the publication of its internal post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election appears remarkable yet entirely predictable. Averse to frank assessments, the DNC operates more like a communications shop rather than a political organization focused on cultivating a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to challenge the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has stayed within that legacy throughout this past year. Publishing such a report would have indicated whether the leadership are interested to foster honest conversation about the errors that paved the way for Donald Trump to win re-election. Instead, the committee is acting as if there's nothing to glean from the tragic debacle of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," a justification that has been offered for withholding the analysis.

Key Issues an Analysis Would Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would confront certain uncomfortable matters. This encompasses:

  • Voter Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate during the previous election was decisive in the close recent race.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The unwavering decision of a party leader to run again, and a last-minute exit, is viewed as robbing the party's base of open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort is criticized for bowing to powerful financial backers while failing to challenge the effects of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: The failure to adjust a stance regarding a ongoing war allegedly caused losing key demographic groups, particularly with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Support: Polling data demonstrates a major drop-off of support for the party from the youth electorate.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a pattern of evading difficult realities. It echoes a dynamic where virtually every Democratic officeholder in Congress went along with a sitting president's insistence on seeking another term right up until a catastrophic campaign event led to an exit.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters were consistently telling surveyors that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Financial Questions

A thorough report could probe issues regarding financial allocations, including the amounts flowed to party strategists and ad buyers during an electoral effort that managed to spend an enormous amount over a few months.

The Larger Implication

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a submission to party leaders that oversaw a losing electoral effort. The signal to rank-and-file members – including millions of small donors – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to understand what the insiders say they discovered based on an analysis drawing from feedback from all states.

A party unwilling to critically review its mistakes will struggle to escape the cycle which was so helpful to the rival party.
