The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
