Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
